C.2.3 Analysis Detail by Device Report

The RDDEVICE menu item creates the "I/O Analysis Detail by Device" report. The report lists the number of I/Os for each device on the selected node. The report detail includes the device name, rate (number of I/Os per second), total I/Os, read percentage, file organization, record size, bucket size and file size.

The "I/O Analysis Detail by Device" report appears as follows:

Appendix D
AUTOSAMPLE and Reports

D.1 DLB Plus Analysis AUTO Summary Reports

The DLB Plus AUTOSAMPLE procedure submits a batch process that samples the node at an interval you specify, until the sample finishes (after "ending time"). Optionally, DLB Plus Summary Reports are generated and printed after the last sample is taken.

The summary reports generated by the DLB Plus AUTOSAMPLE Procedure are:
  RSDEVICE Analysis by Device Report
  RSFRAG File Fragmentation Analysis
RSCACHE Files for Data Buffer or Data Caching Report
  RSHOT Hot File Analysis Report

(For an explanation of these reports, please see Appendix C, DLB Plus Analysis Reports and Graphs.)

D.1.1 Starting the AUTOSAMPLE Procedure

To start the AUTOSAMPLE procedure at the current time, choose the AUTO item from the Master Menu.

When the AUTO item is selected, you are asked the following questions:

Next, DLB Plus responds with the following statements. You see your replies entered in place of the defaults:

Example D-1 DLB Plus AUTOSAMPLE

DLB Plus Dynamic Load Balancer PLUS 01-Sep-1995

This procedure will submit a batch process.

The batch process will sample the node you are running on at the
       specified interval.

Optionally, after the last sample, the DLB Plus summary reports
will be generated and printed on the specified printer device.

Sample end date : 01-Sep-1995
Sample end time : 18:00
Sample interval : 01:00
Batch queue : SYS$BATCH
Generate reports: YES +Proceed-+
Print queue : SYS$PRINT | No |
                                 | Yes |
                                 +--------+

Select Yes or No to Proceed
EXIT = Exit                                                \ = Back  HELP = Help

To start the AUTOSAMPLE Procedure at the current time using these parameters, select "Yes" to proceed.

Next, you see the message:

Submitting batch command file...

DLB Plus Autosample started

This means that the AUTOSAMPLE Procedure is being submitted to the batch queue you specified.

You can use the DCL command SHOW QUEUE batch-queue/ALL to verify that the batch is executing. If the batch is "Pending", it is waiting for an executing job to finish so that the batch can start. If a free slot is not expected soon, you may want to increase the batch queue job limit. Or, you may want to use a different batch queue so that your sample runs during the desired period of time.

If you want to use a different queue, you should first abort the existing sample. To abort a batch entry, use the DCL command:

        DELETE/ENTRY=entry number

The entry number is displayed by the SHOW QUEUE command above.

The DCL command SET QUEUE/JOB_limit=n SYS$BATCH (n = new limit) modifies the job limit for SYS$BATCH.

Note

Only one AUTOSAMPLE Procedure should be run at a time.
