Mabel Rose Boucher was born around 1887 in the Mississippi River town of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of Peter Everest Boucher and Lucille Cherrier, who were of French-Canadian background from Quebec, Canada. She married Harry James Van Keuren in St Paul, Minnesota, and they had four children.

Mabel and Harry lived on Thomas Ave. or Lafond Ave., in St Columba Parish, west of Hamline Ave. in the Midway area of St Paul. After Harry died in 1940, Mabel worked for many years, and lived in St Paul with her daughter Lois Jane. For several years they lived in a duplex next to the southwest corner of Edmund and Syndicate in St Paul, a block from Mabel's daughter-in-law, Glenna Kerker Van Keuren and her children Robert and Thomas.

In the late 1950s, Mabel and Lois moved to Arlington, Virginia, to be closer to Mabel's son Gordon and his family. They lived together in Arlington the rest of their lives. Mabel traveled occasionally to see her son Bob Sr. in Syracuse, NY. Mabel died in 1973 or '74.
