Thomas Dagobert Kerker was born around 1880 in St Paul, Minnesota. He was the son of

Tom was a businessman and owner of the Harper Nut Company. He hated the middle name "Dagobert", and never used it.

Around 1910, in the course of a trip to Currie, Minnesota, he met and later married Sophie Ann Jensen. They had four children:

Tom was a brilliant man and a devoted husband and father. His relatives thought he was terrific. In addition to running his company, he designed and built several houses in St Paul, including a duplex at 1282 Thomas Ave, and the family brick home on St Clair Ave. The duplex was intended as an income property, and it provided both that and a home for Sophie for several decades after Tom's death.

The Harper Nut Company, a competitor of Fisher Nuts, collapsed in the Great Depression. Tom Kerker died of a heart attack, possibly caused by a blood clot, in 1936 or '37. His widow Sophie moved to the duplex, and lived there until her death in 1977.
