You used the skill code maintenance procedure to set up appropriate skill codes for your affiliate.
The MBRSKILL - Assign Skill Codes to Members menu option is used to assign the skill codes to the members. The "out of work" processing procedures access the member/skill code data to determine which of the members are available for specific jobs.
This menu option is also used to assign traveler skill codes to members of other locals who have open traveler cards in this local.
To assign skill codes to members, select the MBRSKILL option on the menu.

This chapter explains how to assign skill codes to members, and to remove assigned skill codes.
98.1 Assign Skill Codes Input Screen
After MBRSKILL is selected from the menu, the assign skill codes input
screen is displayed.

98.2 Prompts and Responses
The following sections describe the prompts displayed when you assign
skill codes to members.
98.2.1 Member Name/Member ID
You are asked for the member name or member ID.

Enter the member's name or ID.
After the member name or ID is entered, the member's affiliate information, some information about the member and the current skill codes assigned to the member are displayed. For example:

If the member is not a local member but has a traveler card, the following message is displayed:

If the member is not a local member and has no open traveler card, the following message is displayed:
U-6203-7917 P. Boone is a member of UBC01111. No Current Traveler Info Found for this Member. |
If the member does have an open traveler card, you can proceed to add and remove traveler skill codes.
If the member holds several current traveler cards, you are asked for the local/affiliate that the member is going to work for.

Select the appropriate local/affiliate from the menu.
98.2.2 Options
The assign skill code maintenance options are displayed, and you are
asked to select an option.

Select "Add a New Member Skill" to assign a skill code to this member.
Select "Finished With Skills" when you have finished maintaining skill codes for this member.
If you want to remove or change one of the skills, select that skill from the menu of skill codes.
If the member has an open traveler card, the following options are displayed:

The actual steps/prompts for adding and removing skill codes is the same for both local members and traveler members.
98.2.3 Adding Member Skill Codes
After you select "Add Member Skill", you are asked for the skill type,
business type, and skill codes.
First you are asked for the skill type.

Select the appropriate skill type item from the menu.
The skill type option you select is displayed in the top portion of the screen.

Select one of the business type items from the menu.
The business type option you select is displayed in the top portion of the screen.
A menu of skill code options is displayed.
Note: The skill code menu options that are displayed depends on what is entered for skill type and business type, and what is set up in the skill codes file. This means that if you enter a skill type or business type and later change one of the types, the list of skill codes might be different, and you might have to delete some already assigned skill codes. |

Select the skill code you want to assign to this member.
You are asked for the skill expiration date.

Enter a future expiration date, or press RETURN to accept the default of "NEVER".
After a code is added, it is displayed on the skill codes menu.

You can assign one or more skill codes to this member. If you want to assign another skill code, select the "Add a New Member Skill" option. Continue this process until you have completed assigning skill codes to this member.
Optionally, you can freeze the adding/deleting of skills for stewards for 30 business days. To do this, you need to select the "Referral/Dispatch Info Maint" menu option and set the "Steward Skill Restriction" flag to "Yes".
If you are restricting the adding/deleting of skill codes, and the member currently has a skill code flagged as a steward skill code, the following message is displayed when you attempt to add a new skill code:
Skill 1444-DRY added. 30 day lag until effective. |
The new skill code will be added, but it will not go into effect for 30 business days. This means that it cannot be added to work lists until it actually becomes effective.
If you attempt to add a skill code that has already been added and is pending, the following message is displayed:

98.2.4 Removing/Changing Skill Codes
If you want to remove or change one of the assigned skills, select that
skill from the list of skill codes.
After you select a skill from the menu, information for that skill is displayed. For example:

You are now asked what you want to do with this skill code.
Select "Modify Skill Expire Date/Reactivate" to change the skill expire date. This option is used to reactivate a skill code.
Select "Remove This Skill from Member" to delete this member's skill.
Select "Finished" when you are done maintaining this skill.
If you are restricting the adding/deleting of skill codes, and the member currently has a skill code flagged as a steward skill code, the following message is displayed when you attempt to delete a skill code:
Skill 1444-CAR deleted. 30 day lag until effective. |
The skill code will be deleted, but it will not go into effect for 30 business days. This means that it will remain on work lists until it actually becomes effective.
If you attempt to delete a skill code that has already been deleted and is pending, the following message is displayed:

98.2.5 Shop/Job Steward
You are asked if this member has ever been a shop/job steward.

You are asked if this member has ever had experience at the supervisory
level.

Select one of the options from the menu.
98.2.7 Update Member
You are asked if you want to update the member record with the shop/job
steward and supervisory experience information shown at the bottom of
the screen.

Select "Yes" to update this member's record.
Select "No" if you do NOT want the member record updated.
98.2.8 Notes
You are asked if you want to enter any special job notes or job
restriction notes.

Select "Yes" if you DO want to enter notes.
Select "No" if you do NOT want to enter any notes, and you will be returned to the member ID prompt.
If "Yes", you are placed into the notes procedure where you can add, change or delete notes. After you complete notes entry, you are returned to the member ID prompt.
